Livedrive offers automatic backup that simplifies the process of backing up one's files and folders to an online cloud. Users have many options when it comes to selecting where to save certain files, which is useful but may be confusing for less experienced users. A third-party review indicated that the automated backup misplaced some files, and that the process cannot be started on command by the user.

Unlike many of its competitors, Livedrive offers file editing options on its web application. Users can edit documents and photos online and upload directly to cloud storage. It is also integrated with popular social networks, so you can upload photos directly onto Facebook, for instance. There is also a movie and music streaming option so you can access your media files on all your devices no matter where you are.

Livedrive claims to be compatible across platforms and mobile applications, but third-party reviews indicated that there are still some glitches when it comes to sending or accessing files on multiple devices.

Files can be uploaded using a simple drag-and-drop transfer. It is possible to restore deleted files and folders, but only within 30 days of deletion. Also, file versioning is available - Livedrive saves up to 30 versions of the same file in the cloud.

Recommended Storage Plan:

The Briefcase plan (2 TB) is Livedrive's most popular individual plan. It offers far more space than many competitors provide and also at a lower cost. Livedrive also offers separate plans and pricing for businesses and resellers.

Safety & Security:

Livedrive claims to be fully encrypted by AES-256 encryption, but a third-party reviewer was able to gain FTP access to an account over an insecure connection. Although the site notes that no method of electronic transmission or storage can be 100% secure, it is somewhat worrisome that account information could be accessed using such a simple method as FTP.

Value:

If you are simply looking for backup software and no additional cloud storage, there are other services on the market that offer more economical plans. However, the Briefcase and Pro Suite plans offer the kind of storage (2 TB and 5 TB respectively) that other personal plans rarely provide. If you're looking for so much space, Livedrive may be the cloud service for you.

PLAN TYPESTORAGE CAPACITYPRICE
BackupBackup only, no storage$6.00/month
Briefcase2 TB$12.00/month
Pro Suite5 TB$19.00/month

Customer Support:

Livedrive is very proud of its support team, Support Force One. Support is available for current customers, who can log in to access the FAQ and knowledgebase. There is also a ticket-based system. Non-customers can contact Livedrive by email or post. Livedrive promises to respond to all emails within 24 hours; however, if there is anything the site could improve, it would be to add chat and phone help lines. There are also How-To pages scattered throughout the Livedrive blog.

Bottom Line:

Livedrive is an established service with many years of experience, but there are still some areas where it could improve - in its customer support, for example. However, the automatic backup, syncing, cloud storage capacity, and mobile access all make this service very attractive.
