Box.com offers free Personal online file storage for up to 5 GB worth of data. Additional storage space can be purchased. Box also comes with basic online document creation and editing tools, which many other free online storage services lack. It is compatible with Windows or Mac computers as well as Android, Blackberry, iOS, and Windows mobile devices.

Part of Box's popularity and success can be attributed to the simplicity of its interface and hassle-free sync. The software chooses a default location to deposit all your synced files, which simplifies matters but might be a hindrance to users seeking a more customizable experience.

An additional feature of Box is its web app integration. Box works with many other apps or programs, which makes mobile multitasking a breeze.

In terms of file-sharing and collaboration, Box offers an intuitive process that lets you import contacts from major email services and add comments and labels to uploaded files.

Besides the free Personal plan, Box also offers a paid Business plan, which comes with many more features. The Enterprise plan, which includes the full features and is designed for professional environments exceeding 500 users, is available for custom options and pricing.

Recommended Storage Plan:

The free Personal plan is a good choice for users whose needs do not exceed 5 GB. However, before shelling out for extra space, do consider other free services on the market.

Safety & Security:

Box uses the highest level of industry data security to ensure the safety of its users' files. Personal users can rest easy knowing that files uploaded to Box are protected and automatically backed up to multiple servers. Every step of Box's content management is industry-certified and guaranteed.

Value:

Box's free Personal plan is perfect for a light user and includes useful features. However, neither its document editing or file-syncing capabilities stand out as the best among other free services. The paid options are decent, but not as economical as plans found among competitors.

Customer Support:

Box provides a fairly detailed support site with a search toolbar and collection of instructional articles. The articles are sorted by category for easy browsing. There is also a community section where users can ask questions or submit suggestions and ideas. For issues requiring the assistance of a support staff member, there is an email request form available. Simply fill out your contact information, description of the problem, and any attachments or screenshots that may be useful for answering your query.

Bottom Line:

Box offers good free service and its 5 GB starting storage space is nothing to scoff at. However, it is eclipsed by its competitors who market towards similar clientele. Existing Box customers needn't switch; new customers, however, should keep in mind that Box is just one of several solutions on the market.
